About DME ®
Alpha’s Organic Virgin Coconut Oil is Fair Trade and is hand-pressed directly from fresh coconuts. The DME process uses a manually operated cold-pressing unit to produce raw oil from fresh coconuts in as little as two hours or less.

Our History
Alpha was founded by natural health pioneer Siegfried Gursche and his wife Christel in 1964, operating until 2005 as Teldon of Canada Ltd. Long regarded as the father of natural health in Canada, Siegfried has been deeply involved in all aspects of the industry and has always made the health of others his priority. While owning a small bookstore in Vancouver in the 1950s, Siegfried noticed that many of his customers could not access the herbal medicines and food supplements in the nutritional books they were reading. He resolved to find a way to import or manufacture those products himself. The result was Flora Distributors, now an international manufacturer and distributor of herbal products. During his time with Flora, Siegfried introduced many “firsts” into the Canadian health food industry, including European herbal tea blends, devil’s claw root, evening primrose, vegetal silica, and flaxseed. Through Teldon, he was also able to provide people with health equipment such as juicers and presses. Siegfried has also been extensively active in educating Canadians about natural, nutritional health. In 1975, he established Alive Publishing Group, through which he published the monthly Alive Canadian Journal of Health and Nutrition, the Alive Natural Health Guides series, the award-winning Encyclopedia of Natural Healing, and other important natural health books, some of which he authored. He retired from Alive in 2005 after thirty years. For his longstanding contributions to natural health industry, Siegfried was inducted into the Canadian Health Food Association Hall of Fame in 1997.
